Our second semester here in Jyväskylä has finally started. Winter school was great and we got a chance to make new friends from different parts of the world. This week also our SpoSMaPro group got together after a long winter break and started our semester with master’s thesis seminar. Our autumn semester was extremely intensive so now it feels a bit weird that everything has started so slow and easy. Well, at least we have got some extra time to start working with our master’s thesis.
Student life is has a lot of privileges. We get the plan our studies our self and schedule our home work according to our other activities, happenings and travelling. On the other hand, being a student can sometimes feel very frustrating and limiting. When having already some work experience and after that coming back to school and earning (student allowance) only 20% what you used to restricts your social life a lot more than you wish. During the weekends it is not possible to travel to meet your friends or family. In Jyväskylä it is almost impossible to get a part time job especially if you have “too much” work experience and “too good” education as they said in the employment office. So, for a girl who hates to be restricted in any way I have to say that I love student life but at the same time I just can’t wait to get back to work life.
This is the time of the year when all of us are searching for an internship or proper work for the summer time. I’m very jealous (in a good way =)) to group mate Antti who is now in Germany doing his in a great company. My dream is to find an internship place from Australia or New Zealand and do some world class travelling while learning something new in a totally different environment. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we all get lucky and find perfect places to practice our skills in real life.
